The Girl by the Bridge is a Nordic noir crime fiction novel written by Icelandic author Arnaldur Indriðason. It was the first Indriðason novel I read and made me a fan. Published in 2023, it is the second in Indriðason’s Detective Konráð series. The first was The Darkness Knows (2021) and then The Quiet Mother (2025).

This being the second Archer Mayor book in the Joe Gunther series I read (first was Paradise City), I found I was getting a bit tired of Gail by this time. However, it was made up for by the attention to police and investigative detail, the colourful cast of characters, a great sense of place about Vermont, and of course the Plot. As the book went on, I found myself drawn into the plot and felt immersed and appreciative of Vermont’s snow covered setting.
