Insane, wonderful and incredible~
In September 2012 I pulled into the parking lot of John Zubick Scrap Metal in London, Ontario to look at the metal sculptures. I had driven by the scrapyard several times on business, but there always seemed to be someplace I had to be. This time I stopped and took it all in and I was just blown away. The imagination, thought and craft that went into these projects is exceptional.
The project, a collaboration between Zubick’s and the Fanshawe Fine Art Program (3 year advanced Diploma program) is a thing to behold. I hope some of these images convey that feeling.

Insane and inspiring at the same time, some sculptures are around the edge of parking lot where you can walk around and others are mounted up in the air in front of the building and lit at night. In the late afternoon Sun, the rusty metal seemed to be enhanced.
My late father in law, George Anger of Belmont, Ontario was always collecting scrap. You’d see him and ask what he was up to and many times he’d say “On the way to Zubick’s.” He’d have his old trailer with him, loaded to the hilt. Looking at all these pieces, I have to wonder if there isn’t some of George in there. In one of the pics [above] beside a sculpture is his son. I included the pic to give some perspective of the size of the objects.
Before I left, I pulled out an infrared camera [below] and took a few shots using different filters. It seemed to lend itself to the surreal atmosphere.
